“Betty” Austin, as she was called, met Erwin at Pratt institute where they were both studying art. They married soon after graduation moved back to the Albany area in about 1937 where they resided until 1957. Both were members of the Albany Artists Group. As mother of their five children, Betty had little time to pursue her art career until, while living in Cooperstown, the last went off to college. Erwin passed away in 1976 but Betty lived and worked in Delmar and then moved to Oneonta where she passed away in 2009. She was a fine watercolorist, seamstress, flower arranger and quilter.
