Norman Swanson

Norman R. Swanson, PhD, is a Professor Emeritus of Mathematics at Hudson Valley Community College, Troy, NY. He was the President of AAG from 2000 to 2014, making him the longest serving AAG President in our history

. He has won many awards for his artwork and photographs in various exhibitions. With his combination of mathematics and art studies, his artwork reflects this interconnection. He often combines numbers, shapes and colors to portray MC Escher- type 3-dimensional optical illusions, Fibonacci Squares, and 4 x 4 grid panels that are quite amazing. Dr. Swanson can also do representational scenes. He has done murals at his local church of Noah and the Ark, and a triptych of Passover scenes from Jesus’ time displayed during Lenten Season. While Dr. Swanson can do representational scenes, he prefers to do the more dramatic mix of art in a mathematical setting.
He can be reached at his e-mail Cygnetny@aol.com
